How it Works
New Lifeguards & Lifeguarding Recertification Courses are Hybrid, meaning the majority of the classroom time is done on your own in advance of the class. As a note, you will get access to the online portion of the class as soon as you register for the course - passing the online portion does NOT mean you passed the class. Please be prepared to swim for this class. Non-swimmers (who are not on a swim team or do not swim often) are STRONGLY Encouraged to practice before trying to complete the lifeguard on-site class.
ONLINE PORTION
An email will be sent out after registering that has all instructions about how to complete the online portion of this course.

For Lifeguard On-Site Training
On the first day of practical class, you should expect to get immediately into the water after we sign in and get settled.
-
On the first day, or on the pretest day, participants must swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl and breast-stroke only (no sidestroke or backstroke is allowed).
-
On the first day, or on the pretest day, participants must complete the following timed activity: Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke only, surface dive in water 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound brick, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using the steps or the ladder. Activity must be completed within 1 minute and 40 seconds
-
On the first day, or on the pretest day, participants must be able to tread water for two minutes without using their arms.
You may wear goggles for the 300-yard swim portion of the pre-test only. If you wear contacts please come prepared to have no goggles on for the remainder of the class. (aka bring glasses or extra contacts) Lifeguarding is not done with a pair of goggles in hand – you need to learn to work without goggles.
